Giant malignant granular cell tumor (GCT) of the posterior mediastinum.
Journal of Thoracic Oncology ® • Volume 8, Number 8, August 2013 A 64-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of progressive dyspnea, fatigue, and cough. Physical examination showed dullness on percussion and decreased breath sounds in the lower zones of the right hemithorax. The chest radiograph revealed a huge right basithoracic mass. On computed tomography, a well-circumscrib...
متن کاملComplete excision of a giant thyroid goiter in posterior mediastinum
Intrathoracic goiter is commonly located in the anterior mediastinum. Here we report a case of a 58-year-old Chinese male in whom we successfully removed the intrathoracic goiter and eased his dyspnea by a right posterolateral thoracotomy approach. Posterior mediastinal thyroid goiter with mediastinal compressive symptoms is an indication of surgery.
متن کاملSoft tissue Rosai-Dorfman disease of the posterior mediastinum.
Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) consists of sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy. Extranodal involvement occurs in up to 43% of cases. However, isolated soft tissue RDD is rare. Isolated mediastinal RDD is exceedingly rare, and there have been only three previous reports. Involvement of the posterior mediastinum in RDD has been reported only in the context of disseminated RDD. Here, we ...
متن کاملAccessory thymus in posterior mediastinum
Presence of thymus in the normal position as well as in the posterior mediastinum is an unusual phenomenon. We report here a case of posterior mediastinal mass in a 20-month old male child who presented with dysphagia and dry cough. Investigations revealed it to be a solid posterior mediastinal mass, suspected to be either lymphoma or a neuroblastoma. Excision of the mass followed by histopatho...
متن کاملMalignant paraganglioma arising from the posterior mediastinum: a case report and review of the literature.
An unusual case of paraganglioma of posterior mediastinum occurred in a young adult with local recurrence and multiple distant metastasis. Because of its rarity, the determinants of prognosis factor between benign and malignant paraganglioma are uncertain. In this case, we investigated abnormalities of the p53 gene and ras gene mutations in tissues of primary and metastatic lesions. Neither abn...
